With all the Hollywood hub-bub where the semi-automatic pistol is over-glorified as a weapon of choice especially since the number of rounds a semi-auto can hold is typically more than six. It'd be no surprise if not a lot of folks were unaware that revolvers can be rapidly reloaded using a speedloader, moonclip or speedstrip. (Not a fan of speedstrips here.)

The clear advantage of revolvers is the simplicity in design, they are far less likely to malfunction, they require a lot less training as for operation (less moving parts and nuances to learn or be familiar with from model to model). Its easier to see if a revolver is loaded. It is possible to be highly mistaken as to whether a round is in the chamber of a semi-auto.

IMHO, the skillfully mastered speedloader pretty much removes the advantage the semi-auto as to the number of rounds and puts revolvers over the top. However choice may vary with the operator (age, hand size, purpose, etc). They can be stored in a belt pouch in a ready position.

A pouch like the above gives you 18 rounds at your hip allowing you to load 6 at a time. Add the six in the revolver for a total of 24 rounds. (See post # 4 for speedloader technique.)

However, for someone whose really a crappy shot and needs extra rounds to increase the odds of actually hitting something, the semi-automatic might be the weapon of choice.

Thusly, it is very much possible to speedily and conveniently have the company of at least twenty seven "friends" (counting six rounds in the revolver, 18 rounds in the speedloaders, 3 rounds in the shotgun) when greeting the stranger that goes bump outside at night.

P.S. IMHO handguns are a secondary to shotguns for home or self-defense. IMHO semi-autos (Walther PPK, Glock, H&K, Beretta, Sig Sauer, Springfield etc.) are good backup weapons for open+concealed carry with a revolver as primary.

I'll take a Revolver over a Pistol anyday of the week, no complicated parts to jam up easily. Not to mention much easier to maintain, pistols are a pain in the butt IMO to do cleaning\maintenance on.
