My opinion:

From a high level perspective, rights are accrued by battle and contention.
Governments want to maintain the appearance and substance of power and control over their subjects.
Governments look out for their interests. People may want to do the same in kind.
If one is being treated as an adversary, consider it safe to presume the relationship is adversarial. This being the case, don't look for the adversary to "protect and serve" you. You'll be "served" alright !! :D

The moniker on this land is "soveriegn citizen"; that is why I like peaceful inhabitant by Michael Joseph's suggestion. That declaration is non-combative and non-belligerent with not one iota of "anti-government" sentiment in it. That is the character they wish to label you with to define you as a domestic terrorist.
