This will take a bit of clarity or insanity to understand, depending on your perspective.

It began on a ward in the jail in about 1998. A fellow approached me after a Bible Study and wanted to pursuade me that the Hebrew word for the Breath of Life (Genesis 2) was The Ruach. I just figured he wanted to bolster credibility because he had studied the Bible with Jews. What he did not realize though is that somebody had bought me a Hebrew Pentateuch.

You should look at the Hebrew letters I underlined there. The term for the Breath of Life is neshmat chaim.

There are three terms for breath. In order of lowest consciousness to highest - nephesh is for any breathing creature. Ruach is for any sentient being - but this would for all intents and purposes be for Man. The highest word for breath is neshamah, not ruach.

When I confronted Andy about this misteaching... well, it was so long ago I do not recall exactly but I got the impression if not admission that it was an intentional slur in gamatria (Jewish Qabbalah) - an intentional stumbling block placed in the fundamental mathematics believed to be woven into the Hebrew letters. Lately this error has emerged in a metaphysical church, audio files attached.

Curious, I have been quiet not to directly correct Norm and noticing that this error is planted prominently in about every lesson about the Bible. At first I thought it a slur (in math) planted into the early Roman Catholic Church by the Jewish rabbis. That may be true but now I tend more to the allure of Secrets of the Sanctuary (http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/2408/moralsanddogmamagiandqa.jpg), a term adopted from the mystic side of Masonry. Basically my thought is that you can get "initiates" (interested congregants) to keep paying for expensive classes if you keep the fundamental keys (linguistics) for unlocking the more productive mysteries to yourself. In this case there seems to be a very intriguing Key but the incorrect numero-linguistic combination of letters has been substituted into the interface - basically the prayer power I/O has been rendered faulty.

P.S. Now thinking about it - the fellow inmate knew I had the Pentateuch before he told me this, knowing I would detect the lie. He was teaching me to perpetuate the slur. That is what got me suspicious.

The Hebrew Letter "Hey" represents the divine breath, revelation, and light (the word "light" is mentioned five times on the first day of creation (Gen. 1:3-4), which is said to correspond to the letter Hey). Since the numerical value of Hey is five, this corresponds on a physical level to the five fingers, the five senses, and the five dimensions. On a spiritual level:

Since Hey is formed from Dalet and Yod, it can also be a picture of returning to God by means of the transforming power of the Spirit. Dalet stands for brokenness, and Yod stands for a hand. Opening the door of the heart then is a picture of the Spirit of God indwelling the believer, and this image also coheres with the idea that part of Aleph (God) is joined with Dalet to form the Hey.

Hey functions as the definite article in Hebrew, a sort of demonstrative that points to the object and makes it concrete and definite. Thus (ish), a man, becomes (ha-ish), the man.

"By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth" (Psalm 33:6).

Moreover, in the fifth word of Genesis 2:4, the hey appears smaller than usual:

This could be seen as "in Hey" they (i.e., the heavens and the earth) were created. Moreover, since Bet represents the Son of God (the Word of the LORD), we could read this as the Son breathed forth creation.

The first letter in Genesis is Bet. However we see that the Word was Spoken so we see that the Bet is proceeded by a hidden Pey [Mouth]. You could even say that The Pey was proceeded by a hidden Alef - as in the breath IN before the Word was Spoken.


And we further see in the Hebrew the Particle [Alef-Tav] which is hidden from the English reader.

The inner space of the letter Pey reveals the letter Bet. Since the first word of Scripture (bereshit) begins with an enlarged letter Bet (representing the house of creation), it is inferred that the invisible letter Pey (surrounding the Bet) represents the Word of God that created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1; John 1:1-3). In other words, the very first letter of the Scriptures is a picture that the ‘Word’ of God is the agency behind the entire universe (Psalm 33:6).

9. THE USAGE OF RUACH, SPIRIT.

The word ruach occurs 389 times in the Hebrew O.T. n the A.V. it is rendered spirit in 237 passages (and no other word is rendered spirit except neshamah, "breath", in Job_26:4 and Pro_20:27. See Ap. 16). In the remaining 152 places it is translated in 22 different ways, which are to be carefully distinguished.
[In the R.V. ruach is rendered spirit 224 times, and in the remaining 165 passages is rendered in many different ways.] The meaning of the word is to be deduced only from its usage. The one root idea running through all the passages is invisible force. As this force may be exerted in varying forms, and may be manifested in divers ways, so various renderings are necessitated, corresponding thereto.

Ruach, in whatever sense it is used, always represents that which is invisible except by its manifestations. These are seen both externally to man, as well as internally within man. As coming from God, it is the invisible origin of life. All apart from this is death. It comes from God, and returns to God (Ecc_3:19; Ecc_3:20). Hence, ruach is used of :

I. GOD,
as being invisible. "The Spirit of Jehovah" is Jehovah Himself, in His manifestation of invisible power.

THE USE OF PSUCHE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.



Psuche is the only word translated "soul" in the N.T. It occurs 105 times, and is rendered "soul" 58 times, "life" 40 times, "mind" 3 times, and "heart", "heartily", "us", and "you" once each.

We must therefore, let Scripture be its own interpreter. Psuche exactly corresponds to the Hebrew Nepesh (Ap. 13), as will be seen from the following passages : Mar_12:29; Mar_12:30, compared with Deu_6:4; Deu_6:5; Act_2:27 with Psa_16:10; Rom_11:3 with 1Ki_19:10; 1Co_15:45 with Gen_2:7. In all these places, psuche in the New Testament represents nepesh in the Old.

The following are the occurrences of the word :--
