This is a really good introductory book on such topics.

This looks good too!

I was poking around some old treatises.
Found in one book concerning an Attorneys General's opinion that a land grant is a higher form of title than even a land patent.
I should have kept the book.

From what I have been told the grants were given by the kings, this is why they might be up further on the food chain of docs.

Patents are forms of grant given by kings.
It is a form of franchise.
Patents are also known as letters patent.
A letters patent is a form of writ.
