The Nine Colonial Colleges

Many have heard the term "Ivy League" used when referring to certain of the colleges or universities in the United States of America. However, have you ever heard the term "Colonial College"? Apparently, there are nine colleges whose charters precede the American Revolution:

1. Harvard University (formerly known as New College) - 1650
2. College of William & Mary - 1693
3. Yale University (formerly known as Collegiate School) - 1701
4. Princeton University (formerly known as College of New Jersey) - 1746
5. University of Pennsylvania (formerly known as College of Philadelphia) - 1755
6. Columbia University in the City of New York (formerly known as King's College) - 1754
7. Brown University (formerly known as Rhode Island College) - 1764
8. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (Queen's College) - 1766
9. Dartmouth College - 1769

(The years connote year chartered rather than year founded. In some cases its the same.)

Is there any coincidence that one or more of the above are closely tied to intrigue, history and conspiracies associated with the history the United States of America?
