    When was the last time you were in a court room? How about the last time using an internet search engine? These were whipped up in a jiffy.

    In California it is straight up, raise your right hand and "state" (not "swear") to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. No bible.

    Again wikipedia...
    "Separation of church and state" is a phrase used by Thomas Jefferson to help describe the clauses;
    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

    Under no terms does it mean absolute separation in all cases. That is why the clauses are worded the way they are, describing the specific.

    Reagan merely made a proclamation, "Year of the Bible". No law was passed. http://www.reagan.utexas.edu/archives/speeches/1983/20383b.htm

    About 5 years ago in a Vancouver court room I watched a friend swear on a bible.
