An abstractor of title is a person who prepares and certified the condensed history (known as an abstract of title) of the ownership of a particular parcel of real estate, consisting of a summary of the original grant and all subsequent conveyances and encumbrances affecting the property. (Source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstractor_of_title))

The source is Wikipedia, therefore do your own and further research of course.

States have abstractors as do real estate companies.

You can act as your own abstractor as you assemble your chain of title all they way back to the first title deed.
