    discharge the jurisdiction?

Rep. & BAR Member Trey Gowdy reportedly said this. what do you think he meant by that?

I look forward to working alongside the other Committee members, as well as any member of Congress, as we discharge the jurisdiction assigned to us.
    sounds strange to me..

Yes. Unusual terminology. I gather by taking the office he feels charged with a jurisdiction and intends to discharge the duty.

i thought that may be it but couldnt figure how a jurisdiction would be charged and he is an attorney so i doubt that was just a feeling he had.

another thought is that the U.S. jurisdictions assets are charged (national debt) and may be it is a hint that it is to be discharged?

and "assigned" is very peculiar here.
