    F.D.R. Warned Us About Public Sector Unions

    Up through the 1950s, unions widely agreed that collective bargaining had no place in government. But starting with Wisconsin in 1959, states began to allow collective bargaining in government.

    I'm sure the warnings go all the way back to Federalist No. 10 written by James Madison on the dangers of "factions" to the whole political community.

      public (adj.)
      late 14c., "open to general observation," from Old French public (c.1300) and directly from Latin publicus "of the people; of the state; done for the state," also "common, general, public; ordinary, vulgar," and as a noun, "a commonwealth; public property," altered (probably by influence of Latin pubes "adult population, adult") from Old Latin poplicus "pertaining to the people," from populus "people" (see people (n.)).

      all public actions are done for the state's best interest.
      so when the state says its for the public's best interest they are saying it is for their own best interest.
